The following courses are offered as part of MusicSenergy - The Business of Music™ suite that includes after school programming and college courses.

Songwriting with Young People
This course includes 12-16 weeks of in-class/online instruction about the fundamentals of songwriting and music publishing. The focus of this course is language art including reading, writing, grammar and usage, vocabulary and poetry, Students track the emergence of American pop music from its origins dating back to an era called Tin Pan Alley through the proliferation of hip-hop in the 20th and 21st Centuries. Emphasis is placed on the literary component of commercial music noting the elements of music, listening and understanding various genres and subgenres, song forms, and production approaches. Students combine their literary works with original music in the co-production of recordings used as part of their final grade determination. This curriculum integrates key concepts in Language Arts and Music listed in the Core Knowledge Sequence and is age-adjusted for middle school, high school and college students. Dis-ease in America:  Opportunities for New Directions in Music and Media
This course explores the influence of music in media entertainment. Students conduct an anthropological review of popular commercial music in the 20th and 21st centuries noting music’s progressive influence over time in media [film, radio and television] as well as computer-based games, the Internet and throughout the public airwaves wherever people gather. Target Audience: Third grade through high school students.

Topics in Commercial Music
This course combines in-class, online instruction and field trips. The time includes a minimum of 6 weeks of core instruction about the fundamentals of operating an independent record label, followed by 4 weeks of detailed instruction in a specialized area such as artist development, composition, marketing, music publishing, product distribution, recording engineering or production. NOTE:  Upon registering, students gain access to Treasures – an online database of award-winning, chart-topping songs from the 20th and 21st centuries used for educational purposes. Additionally, students gain access to the MusicsEnergy Forum that enables confidential songwriting collaborations and communication between current and former students.
